Quiz question: What is our body’s largest organ?
Yes, you have this right, it is our skin! It has millions of pores and sweat is a way for the body to excrete through the skin. Exfoliation helps as well as the skin rejuvenates and regenerates each and every second. It is said that the skin is responsible for up to 1/4 of the detoxification happening in our body each day and skin is commonly referred to as our third kidney.
When you do skin brushing, you help improve the surface circulation on the skin and keep the pores of the skin open, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes and resulting in an improved ability to combat bacteria, plus healing your skin to look and feel healthier and more resilient!
Benefits of dry skin brushing:
It may help with:
Tightening the skin, digestion, stimulating the circulation, increasing cell renewal, cleansing the lymphatic system, removing dead skin layers, strengthening the immune system, improving exchange between cells, stimulating the glands, thus helping all of the body systems perform at peak efficiency.
How To Do:
Buy a long-handle, natural bristle brush. Natural and not synthetic so it does not scratch the surface of the skin.
Skin brush before showering or bathing, once per day in the morning. It will help wake you up…so don’t plan on it as an evening routine. Do not wet skin as this would stretch it.
Always brush towards the heart. Do circular, up-on-the-right, down-on-the-left strokes on the abdomen, with lighter strokes over and around breasts.
Brush the soles of the feet first, next brush the ankles, calves, and thighs, then brush across your stomach and buttocks and lastly brush your hands to the armpits.
Wash your brush every few days in water and let it dry.
You can follow the brushing with an Ayurvedic treatment called Abhyanga. It is a whole body massage with warm organic oil.
After that, time to hop in the shower! Do not remove all the goodness of the oil by using a very strong body wash. A little oil remaining on the body will make your skin dance the happy dance….
Try it! Start with brushing for a few days. See how effective it is! Add the massage on days when you are less rushed and work it into your routine.
Your skin will look amazing and you will help yourself both from the inside-out and the outside-in!
